Damage-Free Transport

Flatbed Towing in Memphis, TN

Some vehicles must never be towed with wheels on the road. A flatbed is not an upgrade for those cars. It is the only correct method.

Flatbed for AWD, EVs and lowered cars, because that is the only correct way.

When Your Vehicle Has to Ride, Not Roll

A wheel-lift tow leaves two wheels turning on the road. For a great many vehicles that is perfectly fine. For others it is an expensive mistake, because turning wheels means a turning drivetrain, and a drivetrain turning without the engine running is a drivetrain without lubrication.

All-wheel-drive and full-time four-wheel-drive vehicles belong on a flatbed, full stop, towing them on their wheels can damage the transfer case or centre differential. So do lowered and performance cars whose front splitters will not clear a ramp angle, classics whose value depends on originality, luxury vehicles with air suspension, and any car whose wheels will not turn or steer because of damage.

Memphis Towing Now runs flatbeds across the metro for exactly these jobs, from Germantown driveways to the dealership rows along the Poplar and Covington Pike corridors.

Electric Vehicles Are a Flatbed Job

This one catches people out. Most electric vehicles cannot be towed with their drive wheels on the ground at all, the motors act as generators when the wheels turn, which can feed current back into a system that is not expecting it and cause real damage. Nearly every EV manufacturer specifies flatbed transport in the owner’s handbook.

If you drive an EV in Memphis and it will not move, say so when you call. It changes the truck we send. The same applies to hybrids with electric rear axles, which have the same constraint even though the front wheels look conventional.

Frequently asked questions

Is flatbed towing more expensive?

Sometimes slightly, because a flatbed is a larger truck and loading takes longer. For an AWD car, an EV or a lowered vehicle the comparison is not flatbed versus wheel-lift. It is flatbed versus a drivetrain repair, which is not a close contest.

Can my Subaru be towed on its wheels for a short distance?

Manufacturer guidance for full-time AWD is generally no, not even a short distance, and not even in neutral. The centre differential keeps turning either way. Use a flatbed.

Will a flatbed scrape my lowered car?

Not when the driver approaches it correctly, using a lower deck angle and ramps or boards to soften the break-over. Tell us the car is lowered on the phone so the right driver and kit are assigned.

Do you transport motorcycles?

Yes, on a flatbed with a front-wheel chock and soft straps over the handlebars or triple clamps. Motorcycles should never be dragged or lifted by the frame.

How many vehicles fit on one flatbed?

Normally one. Some flatbeds can carry a second vehicle on a wheel-lift behind, which occasionally helps a two-car household move both at once, ask when you call.
